David Snedden and I had this very situation in a Mosman Prize match some years ago Having started from hoop 2 instead of the usual Start Area at 4 we were both confused and proceeded to the wrong final hoop The referee was unable to forestall us and hence we were then directed to the penalty area.

Correction correction Not only have I played a wrong ball but also a wrong rule it should be r 10.6 and the opponents can leave or replace and play either red or yellow. No points are scored

As there was no forestall and even though Black has played out of turn there is no penalty and it is simply replace and Red now plays Ian C

But Michael red has not been so directed again and it is too late now as Blue has played its next shot Ian Cameron

I think the red is not offside as the opposition have not given a further direction and Blue has played its next shot . It therefore cannot give a new direction to send Red to penalty area C
